Lewis, Leander Vernon

Leander Vernon Lewis Sr., 66, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007 at his home in Radford. He was born January 14, 1941 to the late Ray and Regina Lewis of New River, Virginia. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Wright and Valerie Morton and two brothers, Ray Whitfield Lewis and Joel Rodney Lewis.

He was an electrician at Hercules and a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Leander V. Lewis, Jr. of Radford; a daughter, Donna M. Lewis of Cornelius, N.C.; a grandson, George E. Meeks III; former wife, Lulabelle Lewis of Radford; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter S. and Clidia Lewis and Richard Courtney and Teri Lewis, both of New River, Anthony Gene and Diana Lewis of Norfolk and James W. Lewis of Fairlawn; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy Laverne and Paul Brown of New Jersey, Mary Eliza Charlton and Caroline Regina and Charles Manns, both of New River; close nephew and wife, Christopher Lee and Cheryl Lewis of New River; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held 12 noon Friday, April 13, 2007 at New Hope United Methodist Church in New River, Virginia with Pastor Barbara Doyle officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the church.
