Lewis, Dale Freeman
Dale (Yank) Freeman Lewis, 87, of Narrows, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek.
He was born in Frostburg, Md. on July 3, 1920 and was the son of the late Elmer Harrison and Mary Katherine Plummer Lewis. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Mann Lewis.
He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran, and a retired employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows with 42 years service. He was a past master and member of Intermont Lodge #269 A.F.& A.M., co-founder and Chapter Dad of New River Chapter-Order of DeMolay, and a faithful member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Christian Men’s Fellowship, the Men’s Bible Class, and served on the Church Board. He was also a member of the Narrows Volunteer Fire Department and coached Little League baseball in Narrows.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Lewis of Washington, D.C. and Steve Lewis and wife, Mercy, of Williamsburg, Va.; one grandson, Nicholas Lewis of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Davis of Peterstown; and a brother-in-law, Coolidge C. Mann of Princeton.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service on Sunday, August 5, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic memorial service will be held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
