Lester, Mabel Saunders

Mrs. Mabel Saunders Lester, 91, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2007. She was born November 12, 1915 in Indian Valley, the eldest daughter of the late James and Ollie Saunders. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 52 years, Wallace Lester; four brothers, Houston, Woodrow, Fendell, and Oscar; and a sister, Gladys.

She is survived by her daughter, Wally (George) Young; two sons, Carlos and Alvin (Jacqueline) Lester; and grandson, George Young III; two brothers, Eugene (Susie) Saunders and James (Lucille) Saunders; three sisters, Pauline (Joseph) Young, Viola Claxton and Marie (Al) Wallace; a sister-in-law, Augustine Saunders and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

For more than 70 years, Mabel was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she served as a Communion Steward, Class Leader and member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Tri Community Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star #238, and The Friendship Garden Club.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 2, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends at 12 noon prior to the service.
