Lester Jr., Marvin Lidrew

Marvin Lidrew (Buck) Lester Jr., 79, of Narrows, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011, at Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rich Creek. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born October 12, 1932, and was the son of the late Marvin Lidrew Lester Sr. and Carrie Elizabeth Frazier Lester.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne Surratt Lester.

A graduate of Narrows High School, Buck served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a retired employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Narrows, serving as Sunday School teacher, choir member, and earning the honor of Deacon Emeritus. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Buck will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Blake Lester and wife, Joy, and Cliff Lester, both of Narrows; three daughters, Lynette Lawson and husband, Michael, of Christiansburg, Regena Soon and husband, Andrew, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and Alesia Collins and husband, Larry, of Narrows; nine grandchildren, Allyson Lester, Nalani, Kekona, Elijah, ReAnn, Nathan, and Micah Soon, Ryan and Aaron Collins; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Lester; a brother, Michael Lester and wife, Margie, of Narrows; a sister, Peggy Guynn and husband, Merrill, of Rich Creek; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends, including his extended family of caregivers at Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rich Creek.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Narrows with the Rev. Jerry Sawyers officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Posts #68 of Narrows, #311 of Pembroke and #145 of Peterstown. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
