Leighton, Betty Brown

Betty Brown Leighton, 80, of Radford, went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born January 11, 1932, she was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church. Betty was retired from Kollmorgan in Radford. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener and her garden was enjoyed by many. She enjoyed life and loved her church, family and friends. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She will be missed by many people. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Juanita Brown; her brother, John David “Dicky” Brown; and her in-laws, John and Bertie Leighton. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Leighton; four sons, David and wife, Debby, Donald and wife, Kathy, Thomas, all or Radford, and Timothy and wife, Karen, of Midlothian; eight grandchildren, Courtney, Nicki, Jeremy, Shana, Anna, Jamie, Andrew and Laura; seven great-grandchildren, Ella, Alexis, Keely, McKenzie, Mareya, Ethan and Jade; three sisters, Dorothy Hyler, of Midlothian, Mary Cochran (husband, Eddie), of Great Mills, Md., Doris Viers, of Radford; and sister-in-law, Marie Brown, of Salem; many beloved nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Betty Mitchell and Diana Mabry. Special thanks to Dr. Harry McCoy and his staff for the excellent care Betty has received for the past 12 years. Funeral services to be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Radford, Monday, July 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Cochran and the Rev. O. D. Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 , at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.
