Haven Stanley Lawson, age 76, of Blacksburg died, Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. Born in Merrimac, Va. on March 28, 1938 to a family of eleven children of James E. Lawson and Mae Belle Lawson. Preceded in death by his parents James E. Lawson and Mae Belle Lawson and three brothers, James Thurman Lawson, Sherwood Clifton Lawson and Dennis Eugene Lawson. Haven served his country well in the U.S. Air Force retiring in September of 1976 with 20 years of service. He served in Alaska, Germany(Europe), Vietnam(South East Asia), and Philippines. He also retired with 13 years of service in June 1995 from Hercules Inc. in Radford, Va. Survivors are his sisters, Delana Gravley, of Roanoke, Darlene Hawley, Brenda Lawson, both of Salem, Betty Wimmer, of Riner, Doreda Keith and brother-in-law, James Keith,of Christiansburg, brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie Lawson and wife, Elizabeth, of Christiansburg, Lee Roy Lawson and wife, Darlene of Rich Creek, VA, sisters-in-law, Barbara Jean Lawson, of Colorado, Martha (Lawson) Holmes, of Christiansburg, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, son, Byron Stanley Lawson, of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughters, Suzane Lawson and Stephanie Lawson, of McKinney, Tx., his companion and friend, Glenna Jarrell and his little buddy, Peyton Howell and Nathan Van Zant, who he thought of as grandchildren. He will be missed by numerous family and friends. Haven spent his retirement years with his loving friend, Glenna Jarrell of Blacksburg, and his little buddy, Peyton Howell. He also spent his time on the sports he loved, hunting, racing, working on vehicles, and watching the racing of his grandson, Peyton. He loved the gathering of his family and talking of his hunting and racing experiences and the old times of past. His family would like to thank God for the many years of enjoying his life and all who expressed their sympathy and especially Glenna for taking care of his every need at the time of his illness. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Everette Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
