“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” On 1/4/2021 after a long illness, Billy J (Bucky) Lawson of Narrows, started singing with the Saints of Glory.

Bucky was born 12/21/1942 to WJ and Ruby Perkins Lawson. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jay, Ralph, and Paul Lawson; and two sisters, Evelyn Ratcliffe and Faye Dunford.

Bucky was All District and All State Football 1961. Listed as outstanding player in football (1961) in First 50 Years of Narrows Addendum 1955-2004. He was also a member of NHS Sports Hall of Fame. He was named Jaycees Young Man of the Year for City of Radford, 1976. He was Associate PA announcer and spotter for Radford High School Football and Basketball and PA Announcer for Radford University Highlander Festival Parade. He was a member of Radford Chapter of American Red Cross Board of Directors, Radford United Way Board of Directors and the Lions Club. Bucky was also a member of New River Valley Community Chorus and Giles Community Chorus Charter Member. He was also the owner of Lawson Insurance Agency for 57 years. Bucky was a member of the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows, VA.

He leaves to love and cherish his memories, his wife and caregiver, Judith (Judie) Lawson; his two sons, William F (Bucky) Lawson of Radford, Stephen Bruce and Shannon Lawson of Montpelier; a daughter, Courtney Brooke and John Whetzel of Woodstock; 7 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his last and faithful sister, Delores and Jimmy Johnston of Narrows, and many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.

The Family of Bucky would like to thank Carilion Hospice Clinic of the New River Valley for all of the special care they took of Bucky and all of the memories they have provided over the past few months.

There will be a funeral service conducted to celebrate the life of Bucky on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows with Pastors Tony Robertson and Eddie Kendall officiating. Family will receive friends at the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church, Friday, January 8, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. We ask that all honor the regulations of Covid-19 set forth by the CDC and Commonwealth of Virginia during these times.

In lieu of flowers, the family request those who wish to consider memorial contributions, be made to Carilion Clinic Hospice of the New River Valley (701 Randolph St. Radford, VA 24141), or NHS Green Wave Football Hall of Fame to honor the legacy of those who walked through the corridors of Narrows High School.
