larsen stanley cStanley C. Larsen, 78, of Blacksburg, died Monday, February 27, 2012. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on May 11, 1933, to the late Sofus & Lilly Dahl Larsen. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Larsen; and his sister, Irene Trenheiser. He had a 43 year career as a carpenter in New York City, during which time he worked on outside construction of many large buildings in the city, and also performed maintenance carpentry at Rockefeller Center. He was a veteran in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, serving one year in Japan during the Korean War. He married Margaret Larsen in September 1955, and raised his family in Woodhaven and Richmond Hill, New York. He was an active member of Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church in New York, serving on the church council and property committees, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. After retirement, he moved to Blacksburg in 1994. He was a member of Saint Michael Lutheran Church, and enjoyed bowling, photography and spending time with family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Larsen, of Blacksburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Patrick Kennedy, of Pocono Summit, Pa., and Amy and Douglas Dandro, of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Deidre Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy, Emily Garst, and Katie Garst; sisters, Alice Rotello, of Warwick, R.I., Marie McGuinness, of Islip, N.Y., Lillian Kanski, of Montville, N.J., and Connie Litton and husband, Howard, of Naples, Fla.; sister-in-law, Ruth Van Valey and husband, Ned, of Red Hook, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all who participated in his care. Funeral Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, with the Reverend John Wertz officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, or Saint Michael Lutheran Church in Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
