Sheryl Lynne Parr Lafon, age 59, originally from Maybrook a community of Pembroke, VA, died March 27th, 2014 at Heritage Hall Rich Creek in Rich Creek, VA. Born in Pearisburg, VA on April 20, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Frazier R. and Sadie E. Tawney Parr.

She had resided in Roanoke, VA since 2007, but considered Pembroke her home. Her first passion of life was family and she received a lot of pleasure from family get-togethers. Her second passion of life was friends and acquaintances.

She leaves behind her former husband, Arthur George Lafon; a brother LeRoy Parr of Hampton, VA; her sisters and brothers-in-law Linda and Richard Williams of Hampton, VA, Teresa Parr of Utah, Pamela and Glenn Meredith of Pembroke, VA, LaDonna Parr of Belspring, VA; Teena and Michael Long of Pembroke; a close cousin and her husband Charlotte and Gene Shrader of Pembroke; a sister-in-law Imogene Surratt of Alexandria, VA; ten special and beloved nieces and nephews Gary and Jenny Williams, Pamela Udy, Michael, Sterling and Aaron Hite, Amanda Lucas, Lauren Barrett, Hannah and Maggie Long; a special great-niece Meredith Lucas and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.

She was a 2001 retiree from the Federal Government; a 1972 graduate of Giles High School, and an active and life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved children, animals, and Bluegrass music! In lieu of flowers Sheryl has asked that you please visit someone.

Sheryl’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the caring hands at Heritage Hall Rich Creek at Rich Creek, VA who gave, not just of their time but also of their hearts in the care of Sheryl during her stay there. We are also grateful to the Carilion Hospice Staff for their invaluable assistance during the transition of Sheryl’s last days.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 30th from 2 until 4 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5905 Virginia Avenue, Pembroke, VA. Funeral services will follow at 4 pm, conducted by Elder Michael Long, with burial afterward in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA.
