Raymond Linwood (Sonny) Lafon, 81, of Kow Kamp Road in Hoges Chapel, Va., near Pembroke departed this life on Monday morning, August 31, 2009, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Eggleston on June 6, 1928, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Lena Mae Strouth Lafon.

Sonny was a devout Christian and member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church in Hoges Chapel, was a member of Wabash Lodge , Odd Fellows, a painter by trade, and known to his CB buddies as “Odd Man.”

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 63 years, Pauline Elizabeth (Libby) Janney Lafon; his sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin (Joe) and Bonnie Jean Lafon, of Pembroke, Victor and Pam Lafon, of Pembroke, and Darrell and Michelle Lafon, of Bluefield, W.Va.; his daughters and sons in-law, Dianne and Dickie Dalton, of Bear Springs, Pam and Freddie Dalton, of Pembroke, and Regina and Kevin Vest, of Floyd; his 12 grandchildren; his six great-grandchildren; and his special friend, “Little Bitty.”

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2009, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Rob Lough and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, September 2, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m.
