lafon_james_masonJames Mason Lafon, 93, of Blacksburg, died on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. He was born in Giles County, Va., on August 28, 1918, to the late Samuel Clarence and Nettie Annie Smith Lafon. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Kate Shaver Lafon. He was a World War II Veteran and retired from the Radford Arsenal with 34 years of service. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary L. and George Sutphin, of Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, James T. and Jean Lafon, of Christiansburg, Wayne and Betty Lafon, of Roanoke, and Will Lafon, of Blacksburg; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Ted Oliver, of Columbia, S.C., two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lamah and Lou Lafon, of Blacksburg, and Leonard and Thelma Jean Lafon, of Christiansburg; nine grandchildren, Patrick Lafon, Phillip Lafon, Brian Lafon and wife, Amie, LaVon Benson, Katrina Carner and husband, Brian, Kari Rauhauser and husband, Scott, Chad Lafon and wife, Susan, Clay Lafon, and Dawn Espelage and husband, Tony; great- grandchildren, Sidney Lafon, Avery Lafon, Katelyn Lafon, Abigail Lafon, and Morgan Hoenig; and stepgreat- grandchildren, Desire’ Moses, Tela Jo Espelage, and Caleb Brown. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor David Ansley officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg First Church of God, 110 East Roanoke St., Blacksburg, VA 24060. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, evening, September 19, 2011, at the McCoy Funeral Home.
