amem_br-sunset.jpgDouglas Eugene Lafon, 60, of Newport, Va. and Dobson, N.C. died on Sunday, October 28, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital.

He was born in Giles County, Va. on July 20, 1947. He was preceded in death by his father, Yancy Raymond Lafon. He graduated in 1965 at Pearisburg High School in Giles County and attended New River Community College for two years.

He served in the United States Army. While living in Booneville, N.C., he was in the automobile business and became a dealer throughout the United States. He loved the cars and spent many hours as a teenager building model cars. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newport and was very caring for animals.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara M. Lafon of Christiansburg; his mother, Bertha F. Lafon of Newport; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Lee Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Friends may call anytime after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, October 30, 2007 at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg, Va.
