Mary Jane “Kit” Lacock of Fairlawn, VA died peacefully at home on March 6, 2023. Born on October 3, 1936 to her parents, Wilford C. “Doc” Lacock and Jane E. Straus Lacock, she joined her brother, Allen in her childhood home of 18 years in Beaverdam, Ohio.

After having a mischievous childhood with friends while being the daughter of the smalltown doctor, Mary attended Bethany College, in Bethany, WV, graduating with a BA in Education. After raising three rambunctious boys, she returned to school, graduating from UW-Milwaukee with a BS in Nursing. She went on to have a successful career as a Cardiac Care Nurse at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee, WI and then spent her final years with her youngest son and his wife, in Fairlawn, VA.

Mary is survived by her three sons, Craig Scott Besag, David Andrew Besag and Cameron Brett Besag, one grandson and four great-grandchildren.

Mary Jane, known by many as “Kit,” had two passions beyond her children: news/politics and gardening. Her flowering gardens in the spring, summer and fall were community-famous, with families walking by her home of 44 years in Whitefish Bay, WI, to enjoy the beauty and to say hello. She spent her final years avidly watching the news, despairing at the rise of neo-fascism within the USA and around the world, but also enjoying Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Bucks games with her son.

Per Mary’s preference no services will be held, and In Lieu of floral or other tributes, Mary requested donations be sent to The Carter Center, https://www.cartercenter.org/.
