Knight, Michael Neal

Michael Neal Knight, age 45, of Blacksburg died, Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery. He was born in Knox County, TN. on March 24, 1968. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Knight. He moved to Blacksburg in 1980 with his family. Mike was very passionate about being an amateur ham radio operator and also about his work supporting radio systems in the area to aid with emergency and hospital communications. Mike was a well known radio personality and disc jockey on stations in the New River Valley and Roanoke, and had recently returned to the Cumulus stations in the NRV. All who knew Mike appreciated his fun and gentle nature and he will be missed by so many family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Matherly Knight, of Blacksburg, mother, Margaret Ann Knight, of Blacksburg, sister, Laura Knight Chaftee and husband, Wyatt, of Herndon, mother-in-law, Hattie Matherly, Blacksburg, extended family in Tennessee and many close nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 2:00pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Gene Ziesel and Pastor Tommy McDearis officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm Friday evening and Saturday from 12:30-2:00pm at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
