Lucille Smith Kirkman, 97, of Blacksburg, passed away in the early morning of April 17, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital- Montgomery. She was born in Bassett on November 26, 1914, to the late Peter and Jessie Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Kirkman (1968), a son, David W. Kirkman (2008), four brothers and two sisters.

Lucille enjoyed many jobs during her lifetime and believed in working hard. She loved flowers and working in her yard, her tidy home, sewing, crafts and cooking. She believed in always having a dessert around because, “you never know who might stop in.”

She is survived by her daughter, Judith K. Celiz, of South Carolina; son, Edwin and wife, Jane, of Blacksburg; two sisters; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012 in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, with Pastor Reggie Tuck officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Blacksburg United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 931, Blacksburg, VA 24063, or charity of your choice.
