David Wesley (Doc) Kirkman, 67, of Blacksburg, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He had encountered several brain bleeds during the last three months.

He was born in Pulaski, Va., on January 15, 1941. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Edwin Kirkman in 1968. David was a member of the U.S. Army serving in Viet Nam during the war. He retired from Va. Tech Physical Plant in 1991 after serving 25 years as a shift supervisor at the power house.

He is survived by his mother, Lucille Smith Kirkman; brother, Edwin Smith Kirkman and wife, Jane D. Kirkman, all of Blacksburg. Also, a sister. David will be missed by his family and all his friends, especially those at The Clean Center laundry mat, North Main St. in Blacksburg where he spent most of his retired time.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Reggie Tuck.

At David’s request, there will be no visitation except after the service. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to their favorite charity. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
