Kirkland, Brenda Gail

A beloved friend, sister and aunt, Brenda Gail Kirkland, 69 of Pembroke, Virginia departed this life February 23, 2024 in the care of Heritage Hall Nursing Home. Brenda’s life was a tapestry of joyful moments, shared laughter, and the warmth of companionship.

Born in Roanoke, Virginia on April 17, 1954, she was a daughter of Carl and Mary Rader Kirkland, who preceded her in death, Brenda was a beacon of positivity and resilience.

Brenda’s life was enriched by the deep bonds she shared with her siblings. She is survived by her brothers, Paul, Gary, and Randy Lee Sheppard, and her sisters, Debra Snider, Doris Tickle (married to Arnold), Connie Sheppard, and Jackie Sheppard. Brenda also held an unbreakable connection with her birth mother, Hazel Sheppard. Her heart and home were always full with the presence of her numerous nieces and nephews, whose lives she touched with her unwavering love and support.

Her journey on this earth was preceded not only by her parents but also by her siblings, Alice Sheppard and Johnny Sheppard, and her step-father, James Duham. They have now welcomed her into eternal peace, where memories are cherished, and love never fades.

Brenda’s spirit was characterized by her passion and enthusiasm for the things she loved. Music and dancing were sources of immense joy for Brenda. She found solace in melodies and rhythm, which often served as a backdrop to the many gatherings with her beloved family. Her collection of dolls and purses were more than just hobbies; they were extensions of her personality—unique, colorful, and full of stories. But above all, Brenda’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family, who were the cornerstone of her existence.

In her life, Brenda embodied the wisdom of Helen Keller’s words, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart.” This quote was a guiding principle for Brenda, who experienced the world through the emotions and connections that she fostered with those around her. Brenda’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the simple joys of life. Her presence could light up a room, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
