Ruth Hagy Kirby, 96, of Radford, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2007. She was born March 6, 1911 in McCamas, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Patrick Daniel and Sue McNew Hagy. She was the oldest living member of Central United Methodist Church which she joined in 1943.

She was a graduate of Radford High School and Radford Normal School. She was a telephone operator during the war and volunteered at the then new Radford Community Hospital. The community knew her and her late husband, Mark, as the owners of Radford Drug currently known as The Medicine Shoppe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Frances Hagy and Ethel Hagy. She is survived by two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Bill Armentrout of Radford and Martha and Don Howell of Lynchburg; three grandsons and their wives, James and Connie Armentrout, Scott and Alice Armentrout, and Mark and Karen Armentrout; five great-grandsons, Brian, Dylan, Zan, Landon and Brett; a great-granddaughter, Kara Beth; and a long time friend, Gary Howell of Vinton and his sons, Donald and Derek Howell of Houston, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with Pastor Ric Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the church. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Central UMC Building Fund or the Children and Youth Ministries, 803 Wadsworth St., Radford, Va. 24141.
