King, Vernice Carper

Vernice Carper King, 74, of 1031 Crescent Street, Pulaski, Va., died early Thursday morning, June 4, 2009, in the Pulaski Health & Rehab Center, Pulaski. She was born on October 11, 1934, in Pulaski, Va., and was the daughter of the late Fred V. Carper and Fannie Hoback Carper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alfred King Sr.; and by a brother, Donald Carper.

Mrs. King was a retired employee of the Pulaski County Health Department with more than 35 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Westminister Presbyterian Chapel and a Girl Scout leader for many years with Troop 710 of Pulaski.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and John Goad, of Pulaski, Kathy and Bill Jordan, of Bradyville, Tenn., Kris Long, of Kalispell, Mont., and Holly King, of Pulaski; sons and daughtersin-law, Charles A. King Jr. and Kathy King, of Troutville, Va., and John and Penny King, of Pulaski; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009, from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Weston Guthrie and the Rev. John Grimm officiating. Burial will follow in Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be held on Saturday evening, June 6, 2009, at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Jordan’s Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1626, Pulaski, Va. 24301.
