King, Robert Glenn

Robert Glenn (Giddy) King, 58, of Pembroke and Richmond, departed this life Wednesday evening, July 1, 2009 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg after a long and hard-fought illness. He was born in Radford on July 28, 1950 and was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Alberta Ford King, who lovingly raised him. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Ron King and a stepson, David A. Carthorn.

Giddy was a graduate of Giles High School and attended VPI and Ferrum College. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Iretta “Bet” Brown King, of Richmond; his mother, Mable “Sue Betty” Johnson, of Richmond; his daughter, Latrice King, of San Diego, Calif.; his stepsons, Andre Carthorn and Craig L. Robinson and wife, Nikki, all of Richmond; his stepdaughters, Franchond Agyei-kyen, of Dale City and Yasheba L. Robinson, both of Richmond; his sister Patrice Mercer and husband, Harold, of Charlotte, N.C.; his brothers-in-law, Ian Burstion and wife, Laura, of Richmond, Stuart Brown, of Richmond; his sisters-in-law, Sandra C. Cox and Brenda Seay, of Richmond; his devoted cousins, Rebecca King-Harris, of Christiansburg and Randy Chapman, of Pembroke; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services.
