King, Bernard Grey

amem_cross2.jpgA man’s heart deviseth his way, but the Lord directeth his steps. (Proverbs 16:9) and the Lord called his son, Bernard Grey King ‘Humpty’ of Stone Mountain, Georgia, home on January 25, 2022.

He was born in Montgomery County, Virginia, on November 4, 1954, to the late William King and Ruth Smith Lewis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Alfonso Smith, Dallas Chapman, Frankie Lewis, and Wanda Lewis.

Bernard is survived by his good friend, Judith Venugopal; daughter, Bernictric Black (Melvin); son, Bernard King, Jr.; brothers, Lorenzo Quaarles, Mac Carlson, William King, Jr., and Phillip Lewis; sisters, Jeanette Calloway, Eugenia Calloway, Darlene Washington (Wilbur), Brenda Jones, Louise Burks; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends that loved him.

Bernard served in the military. Once he came home, he continued to honor and serve by helping anyone he could. He always had a smile on his face that warmed your heart. He had so much love for family. He also loved to travel.

He was described by people that were close to him as a man full of love and wanted to help when he could.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 2-3 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service to follow at 3 p.m. in the Chapel, with Elder Larry Carter officiating.
