kerr_june_elizabethJune Elizabeth Kerr, 80, of Vernon St., Narrows, departed this life in the loving presence of her family at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg, on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. She was born on September 6, 1930, in Newport, the oldest child of the nine children of John Washington and Amanda Link Smith. June was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was eight years old. She was a graduate of the 1942 Class at Newport High School and Salutatorian, and she was employed at the Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows for 49 years as a Laboratory Technician. She was preceded in death by her parents; a baby sister, Mary Frances Smith; and three brothers John (Sonny) Smith, Jerry Smith, and Jimmy Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband and best friend of 63 years, Walter Andrew Kerr Sr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Bandy, of Pearisburg; her sons and daughter-in-law, Walter A. Kerr Jr. and Teresia, of Hagerstown, Md., and Larry Wayne Kerr, of Narrows; her brother and sister-in-law, Roger Eugene and Betty Smith, of Newport; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Iris Smith, of Roanoke, Patsy and Charles Vaught, of Salem, and Joyce and Mike Dilello, of Christiansburg; her sistersin-law, Pat Smith, of Newport, Sam Smith, of Newport, and Yvonne (Bonnie) Smith, of Riner; her grandchildren, Matthew J. and Sheri Kerr, Joshua Kerr and his fiancée, Shalisha Nason, Adam Kerr, Elizabeth and Tom Gochenour, James Spicer, and Tiffany and James Helton; and her greatgrandchildren, McKenzie and Spencer Kerr, Lila Gochenour, Preston Spicer, and Jameson Helton. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, June 16, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Iris Brammer Library or the Narrows Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
