Samuel Kephart passed on Sunday, October 10, 2021, to be with his ancestors under the loving guidance of his Heavenly Father.

He was a dear friend and a kind and gentle man. He had a magnetic personality that was always welcoming and genuine. Sam was a gifted musician. He started his career at the age of 11 on the viola and piano. Sam’s talent and determination led him to the NC School of the Arts and then to graduate from Julliard in N.Y.

Sam traveled the world and played with the N.Y. symphony on Broadway, was in a quartet in Colombia and spoke fluent Spanish; he played with the Roanoke symphony orchestra and many, many other artists locally and abroad. He has touched many lives through those years with his magnanimous personality, creating bonds that join through all time. After his retirement he made his home in Floyd, Va. He was an integral part of our community and was a gift to all those that knew him. He loved his stewardship here on this earth and used his talents to fully embrace his gardening and permaculture homestead.

His love will be treasured by those that knew him and he will be greatly missed, especially by his sister, Carolyn Sandler. Sam will be buried, as he wished, on his homestead in Floyd, under a sugar maple on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 3 p.m. at 2097 Sunny Ridge Rd., Check VA 24072.
