Kennedy, John Dennis

John Dennis Kennedy, 80, of Pearisburg, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Dennis was born in Pulaski September 22, 1932, and was the son of the late John Joseph and Stella Young Kennedy. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a treasured granddaughter, Christie Michelle Kennedy Wilson.

He moved to Giles County when he was seven years old and graduated from Giles High School in 1951. He was a 1955 graduate from Virginia Tech, served in the United Stated Air Force for two years and retired from Georgia Pacific July 10, 1990, and moved back to Pearisburg. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jayne Johnston Kennedy; two daughters, Nancy Carol Kennedy Higgins, of Nederland, Texas, Mary Katherine Kennedy Glover and husband, David, of London, England; two sons, John David Kennedy and wife, Nadine, of Big Island, Richard Dennis Kennedy and partner, Mark Nayden, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Jake, Ce Ce and Ethan, of London, England; one brother, James Michael Kennedy, of Summerville, S.C.; one sister, Judith K Rotenberry and husband, Thomas, of Vinton; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Fred L.
