Kennard, Helen E.

Helen E. Kennard, age 80, of 308 S. 2nd St. Walnut, Illinois, and formerly of Radford, Virginia, died Sunday October 12, 2008 at the Walnut Manor Nursing Home.

Helen was born on August 3, 1928 in Carbondale, Illinois to William and Vena (Gammon) McKown. She was united in marriage to Herbert Hallen. She later married Frances Elliott ” Ken” Kennard on August 25, 1962 in Morrison, Illinois. She was a homemaker, she loved gardening, her Red Hat Society, and playing bingo.

She is survived by her husband Ken of Walnut Manor Nursing Home; two daughters Carol (Dan) Merrill of Ohio, Illinois, and Susan Kennard of Virginia; four sons Herbert (Deb) Hallen of Dover, Illinois, Robert (Sherry) Kennard of Sterling, Illinois, Martin Kennard of Virginia, and Arthur (Donna) Kennard of Virginia; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister Eloise Bumba of Dixon, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson Shane Kennard, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday @ 10:00 at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Paul Nolden, pastor of Walnut United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Limerick cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9 to 10 AM at the Garland Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in her memory to Walnut Manor Nursing Home and the Diabetes Foundation.
