Emmett Roy Kast, 73, of Goldbond, Va., departed this life on Tuesday evening, September 7, 2010, at his home in the care of his family and Carilion Hospice. Born at Kerns, now Goldbond, on September 23, 1936, he was a son of the late James David and Virginia Jannie Kast, and stepson of the late Grace Kast.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Viet Nam, and worked in Monroe County on a dairy farm before starting his own fencing business.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia D. Kast; an infant son; his brothers, Alfred, Donald, Harold, and Howard Kast; and “The Most Precious Lady In My Life,” Shirley D. Kast.

He leaves to cherish his memory “My Special Daughter” and caregiver, Pamela Kast; his brother, Lacy Cody Kast and his wife, Jeanette, of Gap Mills, W.Va.; his sisters, Gladys Wood, of Lindside, W.Va., Gladolia Dolinger, of Pembroke, Ivy Eanes, of Chrisitansburg, Rowena Harvey, of Willow Bend, W.Va., Ellen Davis, of Rock, W.Va., and Wanda School, of Lancaster, Ohio; “My Special Brother,” Clate Dolinger, of Pembroke; “My Loving Niece,” Kathy Montgomery and her devoted husband, Doug, of Ripplemead; his nephew, Buddy Kast, of Narrows; “My Sweet Girls,” Mary, Rachel, Angie, and Brittany; “My Most Cherished Grandbabies,” Dakota, Shaye, Brogan, Gavin, Summer, Christopher, and Rylie; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2010, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 9, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. The VFW and American Legion Posts of Giles County and Peterstown will perform Graveside Military Rites.
