Kanode, John M.

John Merrel Kanode, 82, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey C. and Lillie Laura Kanode; daughter, Sallie; son-in-law, Don; and grandson, Adam.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy V. Kanode; daughters and spouses, Barbara Alvarez, of Shawsville, Va., and Dorothy and Gary Nuckolls, of Montgomery, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, John “JD” and Susan Kanode, of Harrisonburg, Va. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Charles “Sonny” Bishop, of Christiansburg; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 4, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held on 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. V.N. McHone officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg,Va.
