Charles Willard Kanode, age 95, of Pulaski County, passed peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2014. He was the son of the late Charles William Kanode and Lizzie Linkous Kanode.

He was predeceased by his son, Willard Duane Kanode; grandson, Roy Lee Blevins, Jr.; his brothers, Lorenza Q. Kanode, John H. Kanode and Roy E, Kanode; his sisters, Mary K. Hughes, Blanche K. Cole, Kate K. Brown, Ina K. Hayden, Maggie K. Dobbins and Ruby K. Eller; and by his wife, Ivia Freida Whitaker Kanode.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Doug Lindamood; sister, Ethel K. Ryan; granddaughter, JoAnna Lynn Kanode; many nieces and nephews.

Willard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, and a former member of Draper Valley Presbyterian Church. Willard retired from Volvo in Pulaski County and worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years prior to working at Volvo. Willard proudly served his country as a member of the 876th AB Engineering Battalion and saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow visitation with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Pulaski County Christmas Store, P. O. Box 2227, Pulaski, VA 24301, to the Pulaski Daily Bread, P. O. Box 824, Pulaski, VA 24301 or to the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, 135 Fourth St., NW, Pulaski, VA 24301.

The Kanode family is in the care of Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski, VA. The family will be meeting at the “Homeplace” at 4478 Brookmont Rd., Pulaski.
