Journell, Steven Ty
“The only way I knew how to live the best day ever was on an expedition.” ― Hendri Coetzee
Steven “Ty” Journell, 28 of Wyoming and formerly of Pearisburg, VA departed this life, entering into a new expedition in California June 14, 2023 while pursuing grand adventures. Born May 19, 1995 in Radford, Virginia he was a son of Steve and Margy Journell.
A free spirit and mountaineer at heart, Ty invigorated all he knew as he gave his whole being while squeezing out all that life has to offer; as life itself was his passion. Ty found great joy in learning of other’s adventures, seeking to help where he could. He first would do this by serving others in the Giles County Rescue Squad. In finding service to his community a joy, he continued to pursue life as he would graduate from Radford University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Ty would then have the opportunity to chase many dreams and passions as he became a travel nurse. John Muir wrote ““Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer.” This is what Ty did as he would explore the world, whether climbing mountains, skiing, backpacking, or trail riding after his time of work. Finally, Ty would challenge each of us to continue to climb our own mountains where great adventure awaits.
Ty is preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold Juhle.
Left to cherish his memory to their hearts are his parents, Steve and Margy Journell; brother, Chase Journell and wife Abby; grandparents, Larry and Margie Journell, and Phyllis Juhle; his girlfriend, Francine Augustine; Uncle Ray Juhle, Uncle Rick Journell, Aunt Cathy Keampfer, Cousin Riley Journell; and many other family members and friends, from all walks of life. Everyone he met lives were touched in a positive way and they were changed for the better as he was one of kind
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Ty’s memory to Giles County Lifesaving and Rescue Squad (175 Industrial Park Drive Pearisburg, VA 24134) or Inyo Search and Rescue https://inyosar.com .
A celebration of life will be conducted for Ty on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM in Riverview Baptist Church with Shahn Wilburn officiating.
