David Lee Journell, 60, formerly of Narrows, Va., and now of Princeton, W.Va., departed this life on Wednesday morning, February 4, 2009, at his home in the loving care of his family, after a long battle with lymphoma. Born in Giles County, Va., on August 21, 1948, he was a son of the late Buford Ray and Minnie Mae Pruett Journell.

He had been employed at Hardee’s in Princeton as a cook where he made many wonderful friends who will greatly miss him. He had endeared himself to his three brothers and three sisters through the years and they will miss the countless ways he shared his love with them. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He leaves to cherish his memory his three brothers and sisters-in-law, Earnest Henry and Alice Journell, of Pearisburg, Harvey Ray and Barbara Journell, of Christiansburg, and J.B. and Sandy Journell, of Narrows; his three sisters and brothers-inlaw, Mildred E. Morris, of Edgemere, Md., Vickie and Donald McCroskey, of Pembroke, and Carole and Frankie Atkins, of Pearisburg; seven nieces; four nephews; his wonderful landlord, Kenny Lilly; his neighbors, Drema Cox and Bonnie Hunt; all his buddies at Hardee’s; and his beloved cat, Pebbles, who will sadly miss him.

The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, Va., on Friday evening, February 6, 2009, from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Shahn Wilburn and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2009, in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.

The family would like to thank the hospice nurses for making him comfortable in his last days; also Dr. Rowena Chambers and her staff; the nurses on the Fourth Floor at Princeton Community Hospital and the Oncology Department.
