amem_bible.jpgWilliam (Bill) Ashby Jones, went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2006. Born on July 11, 1925 in Newport, Virginia, he was a son of the late Adlai and Annie Smith Jones.

Having accepted Christ in 1939, he served his Lord for many years as a member of the Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, and for the past twenty years as a member of Central United Methodist Church, Salem.

Bill was a farmer and was retired from the Celanese Corp., Narrows. He served his community through the Newport Ruritan Club and the Newport Agricultural Fair. He was also predeceased by two sisters and brother-in-law, Madeline Jones Moore and Mary Jones Farris and Oscar Farris.

He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, George Lee Jones (Shirley), Salem; and two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ida Jones Riley (Paul), Kingsport, Tenn. Jane Jones (Richard), Roanoke and Edward L. Moore of Virginia Beach. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006 from the Chapel of John M. Oakey and Son with the Rev. David Mucha officiating. Burial will follow in the Newport Cemetery, Giles County.
