Jones, Wilbert Ray

Wilbert Ray Jones, 71, of Thornspring Road, Pulaski, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at his home. Wilbert was born in Pulaski County, May 5, 1937, and was the son of the late Murley J. and Callie Long Jones. Also preceding him in death were a son, Donnie Edward Jones; a sister, Hazel Dalton; and a brother, Clyde Jones.

A member of the Newbern Community Christian Church, he served as a Deacon and Elder. His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ gave him the strength to be a caring husband and a loving father. His career as a contractor of more than forty years has given him the respect of the community as a leader, mentor and friend. He sure will be missed.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Marie Riggins Jones; daughters and son-inlaw, Sharon Sutphin, Kristal and Josh Davis; sons and daughtersin-law, Stephen and Sonya Jones, Michael and Tina Jones; sister, Mildred J. Sayers; brother, Hensel B. Jones; grandchildren, Nikki Jones, Adrienne Sutphin, Ryan Jones, Adam Sutphin, Kaitlyn Davis, Haley Davis; greatgrandchildren, Morgan Draper, Ashton Draper, Emma Hedge.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, from the Community Christian Church, Newbern, with the Rev. Ernie Depew officiating. Burial will follow in the Thorn Spring Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Community Christian Church. Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
