amem_br-sunset.jpgSteven Fletcher Jones, 66, of Radford, Va., died Friday night, July 12, 2008, in the Carillon New River Valley Medical Center after a long battle with multiple melanoma. Born in S. Charleston, W.Va., April 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Richard Stanley and Gene Mayfield Jones.

He graduated from Virginia Tech and was a retired engineer with Reynolds. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chester, Va.

Surviving him are his wife, Julie Foreman Jones; daughter and husband, Jennifer Allyn and Gray Jernigan, Chester, Va.; son and fiancee, Evan Wesley Jones and Laurie Long, Hopewell, Va.; sister, Kathryn Jones Makela, Morgantown, W.Va.; brother, Dr. Mark Jones, Hampshire County, W.Va.; grandchildren, Bryson, Aaron and Gavin.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday July 16, 2008, from the War Memorial Chapel at Virginia Tech with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Burial will be Friday in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be given to the charity of one’s choice.
