Jones, Robert William (Bobby)

Robert William (Bobby) Jones, 71, of Pulaski, Va., passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on October 3, 1939, in Jenkins, Ky., he was the son of the late James Franklin Jones and Helen Houchin Jones. One brother, Harold Jones; and two sisters, Janice Rose and Sandra Carroll; also preceded him in death. Mr. Jones was retired from the United States Postal Service with 40 years of service with perfect attendance. He was a member of the Army National Guard for 13 years. He was a past marathon runner having run in the Boston Marathon in 1981. Bobby was an avid political enthusiast and had many published articles. He was a proud American holding in great regard his love for God, family and country. Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Darlene N. Jones, of Pulaski; children, Elizabeth “Beth” Landreth and husband, Clifford, of Willis, Carol Zimmerman and husband, Chuck, of Pulaski, and Michael Jones, of Pulaski; eight grandchildren, Matthew Hurst, Rachel Landreth, Holly Landreth, Josh Landreth, Sarah Boswell, Aaron Boswell, Noah Zimmerman and Chuckie Zimmerman; brother, Larry Neal Jones and wife, Cindy, of Waynesboro; and sisters, Patricia Shifflet and husband, Victor, of Waynesboro, and Lana Vaughn, of Pulaski. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010, in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski with Pastor Ricky Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at Bower Funeral Home.
