Richard Earle Jones, 90, of Roanoke, and formerly of Christiansburg, completed his earthly journey on August 28, 2009, at the Richfield Recovery and Care Center, Salem, Va. Richard was the son of Helen Lawrence Jones and Albert Richard Jones, of Christiansburg, Va.

Richard was born March 3, 1919, in Sprigg, W.Va. He graduated from Christiansburg High School, attended VPI (Virginia Tech), and graduated from an interior design school in Chicago, Ill. Richard Jones was an honorably discharged World War II veteran. He attained the rank of Sergeant. His honors included the Asiatic Pacific Theater with two bronze Stars. He was in the group that rescued General Stillwell and Stillwell’s Army out of Burma.

Richard was a Mason in the McDaniel Lodge # 86 AF and AM, Christiansburg, Va. for over fifty years. Richard was an outstanding professional Designer and Decorator in home and commercial interiors. His career included businesses in Charlotte, N.C., Greenville, S.C., Chattanooga, Tenn., Christiansburg, Va., and Roanoke and Salem Va.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009, in the Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va., conducted by the Rev. Thomas Harvey of Cambria Baptist Church.

The family is being served by Horne Funeral Home.
