Jones, Opal Matherly

Opal Matherly Jones, 85, of Christiansburg, completed her beautiful Earthly journey and began her life in Heaven on June 5, 2013. Opal was a treasured family matriarch, a magnificent mother, steadfast wife, and a cherished friend to so many.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, and attended Lake Baldwin Church in Orlando, Fla. during her winter stays. Opal is survived by her sons, Garry and Dennis and their life partners, Isis Jones and Stephen Mullis. Her life was enriched by her cherished extended family that included nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends she called family, including Dorothy Meredith and Molly Ayers Tilley. Opal’s impact on the world around us will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on June 8, 2013, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 220 W. Main St. Christiansburg, with the Rev. Michael Copeland, the Rev. Doug Kanney, the Rev. Neal Turner, and the Rev. Mike Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time of service.
