Jones, Nellie P.

Nellie P. Jones, 87, of Blacksburg, died at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on August 10, 2011. She was the daughter of the late William C. Phipps and Ada E Phipps, of Newport. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Watson Martin and James Jones; a brother, William Carl Phipps Jr.; two sisters, Gussie Simmons and Mary Phipps. She is survived by a son and his wife, Melvin and Kathleen Martin, of Blacksburg; a daughter and her husband, Donna and James Carden, of Radford; three grandchildren, Melissa Carden, of Christiansburg, Kevin Martin, of Christiansburg, and Donald Carden, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven greatgrandchildren; a sister, Emma Howard, of Princeton, W.Va.; a special friend and caregiver, Patsy J. Day, of Blacksburg; several nieces and nephews. Nellie loved to attend church and visit nursing homes. She retired from Corning Glass in 1984. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday August 11, 2011 at DeVilbiss Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg. The Jones family is being served by DeVilbiss Funeral Home Chapel.
