James Nicholas (Nick) Jones, Jr., 81, beloved husband, father, brother and uncle, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was born in Martinsville, Va. on February 12, 1925 to the late James Nicholas, Sr. and Bessie Lee St. John Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Howard Jones.

He loved to eat, garden, fish, go to church and watch Virginia Tech football. He served in the US Navy and received his bachelors and masters in Ag. Engineering from Va Tech. He did research for USDA and Soil Conservation in the Agriculture Engineering and Agronomy Departments of Virginia Tech. He was a member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church and the Blacksburg Host Lions Club.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Luralee Jones Cornwell and husband, Stephen of Fredericksburg, Nicolynne Jones of Blacksburg; brother and sister-in-law, William and Irene Jones of Lynchburg; sisters-in-law, Frances H. Baird, Roanoke, Louise Howard, Blacksburg; grandchildren, Nick Cornwell, Salem and Jean Cornwell, Charlottesville; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Reggie Tuck and Rev. Morris V. Fleischer officiating. Internment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dan Kite Murrill Bible Class, Blacksburg United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 931, Blacksburg, VA 24063. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg.
