jones_charles_lewisCharles Lewis (Charlie) Jones, 67, of Blacksburg, Va., died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Columbia, N.C. on April 23, 1943, to the late Sam M. Jones Sr. and Melba Grace Ayres Jones. Charlie was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanna Mae “Talli” Jones. He is survived by his sister, M. Cheryle Jones, New Orleans, La.; his brother, S. Marvin Jones Jr. and wife, Nancy, Chesapeake, Va.; nephews, Sam M. Jones III, C. Tom Jones and wife, Nancy Carol, all of Chesapeake, Va.; stepmother, Lee Jones and daughter, Angie, Columbia, N.C.; five great-nieces and nephews, Mattie Grace, Samantha, Abby, Dorian and Noah Jones; 11 aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins. Charlie will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. Charlie graduated from Virginia Tech in 1969 with a degree in architecture. He was a proud “hokie” supporter and loved to tailgate at tech games with his many dear friends in Blacksburg. He was a founding member of the Gourmet Club and was active in a variety of civic organizations including the Blacksburg Humane Society. As a certified architect since 1974, he designed numerous buildings in the Blacksburg and Southwest Virginia area, including Mccoy Funeral Home and the Wheatland Hills Retirement Community as well as several retirement communities in Wise County. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Mccoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sebert Rorrer officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time prior to the service Saturday at Mccoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. Funeral services will also be held Sunday, May 23, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the Bryan Funeral Service Chapel, Columbia, N.C. with the family receiving friends from 2 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in the Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia, N.C. Charlie was dedicated to the Blacksburg Humane Society and the family requests that donations in his memory be made to that organization.
