Jones, Bernard Rufus
Bernard Rufus (BJ) Jones, 64, of McCoy, Va., died Friday, January 13, 2012, at his home with his wife and family by his side after an extended illness. He was born in Carroll County on December 31, 1947, to the late Clyde Walter and Annie ArrVilla Lowe Jones.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Junior Jones; his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Lelia McCraw; and a brother-in-law, Robert Nester.
Bernard especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and some of his favorite hobbies and past-times were riding his trike, hunting and fishing when he was able, and also cross word and sudoku puzzles. He was a member of the Blacksburg Christian Church and served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. He received his bachelor and master degrees from VPI & SU, and was employed with Virginia Tech for 24 years before having to go on disability.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ollie M. Jones; daughter, Laci N. Jones; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Cassidy Jones; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Lugar, William Lugar, and the precious little one that will be here in March; sister and brother-in-law, Mala Mae and Ronald Sellers; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Aster Lowe and Teresa Banks, Jessie and Patricia Jones; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lonnie McCraw, Alene Nester, Donnie and Carlene McCraw; nieces and nephews, Robbie and Debbie McCraw, Tony and Penny McCraw, Douglas and Cindy McCraw, Tim and Jennifer Lowe, JoAnn Williams, Jeff and Miranda McCraw, Bobby and Tina Lowe, Angela Easter, Sandy Davis, Susan and Jamie Whitaker, Stacy Jones; many great nieces and nephews; best friends and riding buddies, Larry and Yvonne McCoy; adopted mom and pop, B. W. and Ruth Ann McCoy; special friends, Gene and Karen Carson; and special cousins, Nicholas and Fredia Edwards.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses in the Blacksburg Dialysis Center and the 2nd Floor nurses at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2012, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. Monday in the Independence Cemetery, Carroll County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Christian Church Building Fund, 240 Watson Avenue, Blacksburg, Va. 24060 or the Long Shop-McCoy Fire and Rescue, Box 489, McCoy, Va. 24111.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday evening in the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., SW, Blacksburg.
