jones alice ireneAlice Irene Jones, 84, of Premont, Texas, and formerly of Christiansburg, lost her long battle with breast cancer in a Kingsville, Texas hospital on January 15, 2012. Alice was a loving mother, housewife and friend to many. Her out of home working career ended with a 20 year employment as a receptionist and switchboard operator with Hi Gear Automotive in Capitol Heights, Md. She is preceded in death by her husband, United States Army World War II veteran John C. Jones; her parents, Ethel and Frank Johnson; two sisters, Reba Oberndorfer and Wilma Comer; and her grandson, Manny Brown. She is survived by her sons, Stanley (Jan) Jones and Martin Jones; daughters, Wesly (Sam) Gray and Frances (Casey) Brown; grandchildren, Gregory Bond, Kathrine Bond Helms, Tiffany Brown Zelaya, Ty Cody Brown, serving in the U.S. Army in San Antonio, Texas, Travis Brown, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Walker Brown, Adrian Jones, serving in the U.S. Air Force at FOB Sharana, Afghanistan, and Trevor Jones; great-grandchildren, Hunter Wray Helms and Makala Rae Hofstetter-Brown; one brother, U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran Frank “Buck” (Sugar) Johnson; and two sisters, Iona Oliver and Maurine Nester. Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012, with the Funeral Service to follow at 2 p.m. at Alleghany Church of Christ, 2095 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg. Pastor Porter Riner will officiate. Internment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2880 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg, immediately following the church service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Alleghany Church of Christ, The American Cancer Society , or a charity of your choice , in memory of her.
