Johnston, Sr., William Russell

William (Bill) Russell Johnston Sr., 82, of Pearisburg, Va. passed away at his home Monday, January 18, 2010. Mr. Johnston was born on October 18, 1927 in Eggleston, Va. and was a son of the late Clyde Strother Johnston and Clara Dorena Martin.

Bill was an Army Veteran of World War II, a graduate of Virginia Tech and a proud Hokie, a member of the Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship Church in Pearisburg and retired as plant manager at A.P. Green Lime Plant in Kimbleton, Va.

Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, June Ratcliffe Johnston, of Pearisburg; one daughter, Teresa Lynn Johnston Miller and husband, Mac, of Roanoke, Va.; two sons, William Russell “W.R.” Johnston Jr., and wife, Donna Carole, of Pearisburg, Dr. Roy Neil Johnston, of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, William Russell Johnston, III and wife, Brenda, Specialist Andrew Nash Miller, Hannah Miller Aschliman and husband, Kurt; and two sisters, Mary Johnston Austin and husband, Albert “Bunk”, of Radford and Barbara Johnston Cardwell, of Lenoir City, Tenn.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Don McKinney officiating, with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
