James Lee Johnston, Sr., 86, of Johnston Avenue in Pearisburg departed this life to be with The Lord on Monday evening, September 10, 2007 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg.

Born in Narrows on February 13, 1921, he was a son of the late Albert Sidney and Elsie Marie Morris Johnston. “Jim” was a devoted Christian and member of Pearisburg Christ Fellowship Church in Pearisburg, a graduate of Narrows High School Class of 1941, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, WW II, retired from Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows as Supervisor in Cigarette Tow, and worked several years repairing and installing furnaces.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith Crabtree Johnston; and a daughter-in-law, Betty D. Johnston. He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, James Lee Johnston, Jr. of Pearisburg; two daughters, Marty Wickline of Pearisburg and Judy J. and husband, John Meredith, of Narrows; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-children; and three sisters, Mae Mann of Cashmere, W.Va., Iris Riddle of Salem, and Lucille Wiekle of Salem.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 1 p.m. in Pearisburg Christ Fellowship Church with Pastor Gregg Cox and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Pearisburg Christ Fellowship Church Wednesday evening, September 12, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke is serving the Johnston Family.
