Johnston, Dannie Eugene

Dannie Eugene Johnston, 65, of Eggleston, departed this life Saturday evening, May 25, 2013, at Bedford Memorial Hospital, Bedford. Born in Pearisburg on August 10, 1947, he was a son of the late George W. and Eileen Morris Johnston.

Dannie was a 1968 graduate of Giles High School and earned an Associates Degree from New River Community College. He was retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem and had later worked as a security officer with Securitas. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, Viet Nam era. He had been a member of Eggleston Lodge AF&AM and was a member of Green Valley United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Johnston. Dannie leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 42 yrs, Etta Mae Ryder Johnston; his sons, Phillip Eugene Johnston of Littleton, Colo. and William Jackson and wife, Lisa, of Canton, Mich.; his daughter, Shirley Ann and her husband James Moore, of Pearisburg; his grandchildren, Andrew Bernard, Camron Moore, and Isaac Moore; his brother, Bobby Wayne Johnston, of Narrows; his sisters, Becky Lucas, of Pembroke, and Dreama Blankenship, of Narrows; and his “special foster daughter” Dawn Stump, of Pearisburg.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Bob Evans and Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Dublin with graveside military rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.
