Robert (Bob) Sheridan Johnson, 80, of Christiansburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Bob was born on August 22, 1932, in Huntington, WV, to parents Arthur and Mabel Johnson.

Bob grew up in Corning, NY where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Catherine Telehany. At the age of 16, Bob went to work for Corning Glass where he served the organization in various roles and at many plants in the Corning area. In 1970, he was transferred to the Christiansburg, VA plant where he retired with 42 years of service.

Bob spent many years in bowling leagues where he developed lifelong friendships. He was an active member of the Montgomery County Moose Lodge where he served as an officer, Governor and earned the distinguished Pilgrim Degree.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mabel Johnson; brothers, Paul and Sven Johnson; and son, Robert Jeffrey Johnson. Surviving are his wife, Catherine; sister, Alice Hart; children, Linda (Randy) Lobeck, Steven (Mary) Johnson; grandson, Christopher Winder; granddaughter, Jennifer (Gary) Mitten; great-grandchildren, Trace Winder, Triton, Tori and Teagan Mitten.

Bob loved life and being with family and friends. He never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting new people. His compassionate heart was his greatest strength as he was always ready to give a hand to a cherished friend or one he just met.

The family extends a special thank you to the nursing and cardiac teams at both Montgomery Regional Hospital and Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 2 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
