Johnson, Michael Jerome

Michael Jerome Johnson, 61, of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at his home. Mike was born December 8, 1951, in Pearisburg and was a son of the late James and Virginia Hale Johnson, of Narrows. Mike was a graduate of Giles High School and a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in business administration and worked in hotel management.

He was a lifelong member of the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church and was an avid sports fan, especially the Atlanta Braves and the Virginia Tech Hokies. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly D. Carroll Bennett and her husband, Bobby, of Alderson, W.Va.; and his son, Wesley Adam Johnson, of Pearisburg; his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Tom Johnson, of Narrows; two nephews, Tim and Katie Johnson, Matt and Laura Johnson; two great-nephews, T. Cover Johnson IV and Wyatt A.S. Johnson; and one great-niece, Joan E. Johnson. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013, with the Rev. Brian Birch and Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.
