Margaret Johnson, 89, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Johnson City Medical Center. Born in Orono, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Maurice D. and Charlotte S. Clough Jones.

Mrs. Johnson graduated from the University of Maine where she received her degree in home economics. She was a member of Blacksburg, Va., Baptist Church where she was active in church circle. Mrs. Johnson attended chapel services at Appalachian Christian Village during her eight years of residency there.

Known as a friendly, outgoing, self-reliant Yankee, she always saw the good in others. She remained independent for 30 years after the death of her husband. She enjoyed listening to country music and watching sports on television. She was a fan of Tiger Woods, the Boston Red Sox and the Virginia Tech Hokies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Johnson in 1979; a sister, Beatrice F. (Jones) Birchard; and a brother, Francis C. Jones.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Johnson Behl and husband, Harry, of Blacksburg, Va.; sons, Dan M. Johnson and wife, Karol Lynn, of Johnson City, and Paul C. Johnson and wife, Sandra, of Wakefield, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Amber L. Johnson, of Kirksville, Mo., Reid W. Bertone-Johnson, of Amherst, Mass., Stewart P. Johnson, of Temple, N.H., Aaron J. Johnson, of Rochester, N.H., GenaAnn E. Johnson, of Wakefield, N.H., Harrison B. Behl, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Clayton J. Behl, of Blacksburg, Va.; and four greatgrandchildren, James K. Bertone-Johnson, of Amherst; Mass., Anna M. BertoneJohnson, of Amherst, Mass., Sarah R. Johnson and Hannah A. Johnson, both of Temple, N.H.

A graveside memorial service is planned for Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg, Va.
