johnson_loyd_leeLoyd Lee Johnson, 86, of Sam Robinson Drive in Pembroke, Va., passed from this life on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Radford. Born in Red Sulphur Springs, W.Va., on July 24, 1923, he was a son of the late Walter Lewis and Lula C. Shovler Johnson. Loyd had been employed at the Leas & McVitty Tannery for many years and was retired from the Giles County School Board as a School Custodian. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rosa B. Dickerson Johnson; his second wife, Martha Brown Johnson; a son, Edward Lee Johnson; and a daughter, Carolyn C. Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory his son and daughter-in-law, Loyd Lee Jr. and Sandra Johnson, of Floyd; his daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria J. Crews, of Battle Creek, Mich., Mary E. and Frank Canada, of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., kElva Louise and Ronald Jones, of Christiansburg, and Patricia R. Kirby, of Christiansburg; his stepsons, Paul Green and James Green, of Talcott, W.Va.; his sisters, Elva Gray (Eddie), of Elgood, W.Va., and Alma Medley, of East Orange, N.J.; his 26 grandchildren; his 31 great-grandchildren; his one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend, Brenda Mitchell, of Pembroke. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010, in First Baptist Church, Pembroke with the Rev. T.M. Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
