Helen Loraine Alvis Johnson, 92, of Pearisburg, and a resident lately of River View Nursing Home in Rich Creek, died Monday evening, June 4, 2012, at Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Giles County on September 22, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Everett Ransom and Eulalia Powell Alvis of Narrows.

She was a devoted member of the Pearisburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, a graduate of Narrows High School Class of 1938, and a former “Miss Giles County”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Robert Johnson; a son, Stanley Lee Johnson; her sisters, Evangeline Burton and Dorothy Smith; and her brothers, James David Alvis and Everett Ronald Alvis. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Dolores A. Smith, of Hyatteville, Md., and Madeline A. Moles, of Ripplemead; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m Friday, June 8, 2012, in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. Friends may call at the Abbey one hour before the services.
