johnson_beulah_harrisBeulah Marie Harris Johnson, 88, of Narrows, Va., went to Heaven to be with the Lord and to join her husband of 52 years on Monday, August 30, 2010. She was born in Willis, Va., on July 8, 1922, and was the youngest child of the late Giles Ora and Nancy Jane Nester Harris. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Austin Johnson Jr.; her great-grandson, Joseph H. “Jake” Stafford; two brothers, Clarence and Quentin Harris; and two sisters, Lacie Harris Kemp and Effie Harris Williams. There was never a person more pure of heart and devoted to her family, church and friends. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows where she served in the choir, Christian Women’s Fellowship, on numerous committees and various offices. Beulah was a gifted artist and well known for her crafts. She was also a volunteer at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, and was a member of American Legion Post #68 Ladies Auxiliary, the Red Hat Club, Rose Garden Club, and a variety of other organizations in Giles County. Beulah will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all that knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Randall S. Johnson, of Hampton, Va., and Nancy Johnson, of Roanoke, Raymond H. Johnson and wife, Jill S. Johnson, of Charleston, S.C., Ronald N. Johnson and wife, Anna McClaugherty Johnson, of Princeton, W.Va., and Katrina J. Clyburn and husband, Donald, of Roanoke, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie J. Stafford and husband, Joe, of Athens, W.Va., Christian A. Johnson, of Atlanta, Ga., M. Scott Johnson and wife, Monique, of Paeonian Springs, Va., Leslie J. Cline, of Princeton, Staci Johnson, of Ijamsville, Md., Katharine J. Carter and husband, Deon, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ashley J. Padgett and husband, Ronald, of Charleston, S.C., Sarah Clyburn, of Roanoke, Joshua Clyburn, of San Francisco, Calif., and Justin Clyburn, of Raleigh, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Adam Yniguez, Sarah Stafford, Emily Stafford, Tyanna Carter, Abigail Padgett and Madelyn Padgett; a sister, Euna Harris Cassell, of Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Deane Harris, of Berryville, Va.; many nieces and nephews; and many special friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of South Roanoke Nursing Home for the wonderful care Beulah received during her years there. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows with the Rev. Carroll Givens and the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg.
